The Vienna Film Commission was established in February 2009 at the initiative of the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Vienna, the Vienna Economic Chamber, the Vienna Business Agency (VBA), the Vienna Film Fund, the Vienna Tourist Board, and Municipal Department 53 – Press and Information Services of the City of Vienna. The Vienna Film Commission operates as a non-profit limited liability company and is a free of charge service by the City of Vienna. It serves as the first point of contact for national and international production companies. The Vienna Film Commission provides detailed advice and comprehensive information about filming in Vienna. It lobbies for the film industry and promotes Vienna as film location worldwide.
