For shooting in Vienna you need an official film permit.
Film permits are issued by the relevant municipal departments of the Vienna City Administration.

1. FILM PERMITS FOR LOCATIONS WITHIN THE SPHERE OF COMPETENCE OF THE VIENNA CITY ADMINISTRATION

If you plan to shoot in a location that is within the area of responsibility of the Vienna City Administration, please fill in the form "Application for a film permit" on our homepage. We will forward your application with a letter of recommendation to the relevant municipal department.

2. FILM PERMITS FOR PUBLIC TRAFFIC AREAS

In case of shooting in public traffic areas where there is a need to arrange either setting up of no parking zones, roadblocks or stopping traffic, it is necessary to contact: Municipal Department 46 – Traffic Management and Organisation. The team of the Vienna Film Commission provides you with help and advice if you have any questions about film permits.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES
Applications without on-site inspection: at least ten workdays before the production start date
Applications with on-site inspection: 20 workdays before the production start date
Applications with no parking zones: at least six workdays before the production start date

ON-SITE INSPECTION
What is an on-site inspection?
If you plan to shoot in public traffic areas and need to close roads or stop any private or public traffic there will be an on-site inspection before the production start date.

3. FILMING WITHOUT A PERMIT „TOURISTISCHES AUSMASS“

If you plan to film in public traffic area and your shooting meets specific requirements in the sense of the decree „Touristisches Ausmaß“, you will not need a film permit.

We please you to fill in the form "Application for a film permit" on our homepage, to check your request according to the guidelines „Touristisches Ausmaß“. We will forward your application with a letter of recommendation to the Municipal Department 46.

The final decision if your shooting needs no permit will be taken by the Municipal Department 46.

„Touristisches Ausmaß“ on public traffic areas is defined as follows:
Keinerlei Verkehrsbeeinträchtigung, Kameraführung nur aus der Hand oder auf Stativ, Teamumfang nicht mehr als 8 Personen, keine Schauspieler und Darsteller, die aufgrund Ihres Bekanntheitsgrades Anlass sein könnten, dass Schaulustige vermehrt stehen bleiben und dann, aufgrund von „Traubenbildung“ Verkehrbeeinträchtigungen entstehen könnten.
Filmaufnahmen, die diesen Rahmen überschreiten, bedürfen einer Bewilligung.

4. FILMING WITHOUT A PERMIT „AKTUELLER DIENST“

Filming on a daily basis for media like TV, radio, news services and press will not require a permit. It is required to contact the relevant municipal department.
