Knut Ogris, Producer (Austria)
Born in 1952 in Bad Aussee, Austria, Knut Ogris has worked in cinema since 1975 in a variety of roles, such as Location Manager, Unit Production Manager, Assistant Director, Producer, and Executive Producer. He has produced countless hours of both feature and documentary projects for Austrian and international television as well as domestic and international theatrical distribution.
Knut Ogris started out his career as Location and Unit Production Manager in numerous TV movie productions for Austrian, German, British, French, Greek, Italian, and Mexican film production companies. Since 1978, Knut Ogris had been actively involved in the development of the Austrian “Film Funding Law“ (FFG – Filmföderungsgesetz), which entered into force in 1980. After working with the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (department “Film- und Audiovisionsindustrie”), he established his own film production company, Arion Film, in 1983.
Only one year later, the feature film MorgenGrauen was released, earning nominations at the film festivals of Sitges, Bruxelles, Avoriaz, and Orleans as well as at the Berlinale and selling English-language world rights to the USA and video and TV rights to Japan, Korea, and Belgium. In addition to producing feature films, Arion Film and its successor company Grey Panther Films specialized on TV productions, documentaries, commercials, and in coprorate films. Since 2000, Knut Ogris has worked as Executive Producer with various national and international production companies, including Extrafilm, Vienna, Bonusfilm, Vienna, Pale Blue Productions, Mödling, AMF, Vienna and a1plus Film, Vienna, focusing mainly on European and international coproductions.
Knut Ogris has lectured at and participated in panels on film production & financing at numerous film festivals and workshops in Europe and around the world, establishing an international network of filmmakers and film experts which has come to fruition in international coproductions with Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy, Israel, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, USA, Canada, and Algeria.
Following the successful completion of the French-Swiss-Austrian coproduction Henry Dunant: Red on the Cross, he founded Knut.Ogris.Films in 2006, a production company aimed at further extending and intensifying the close cooperation between scriptwriter, producer, and director on a European and international level.
Knut Ogris is father of two sons, Valentin (1988) and Severin (1989). He lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
