Based on a concept by Peter Kubelka that was first realized in New York at the Anthology Film Archives in 1970, the Invisible Cinema, with its all black design, serves as a "viewing and listening machine," permitting viewers to focus their concentration with utmost intensity on the film being shown.
Following a period of extensive renovation and expansion at the hands of architects Friedrich Mascher and Erich Steinmayr as well as technical upgrades to the projection and sound system, the cinema re-opened as "Das Unsichtbare Kino 3" ("The Invisible Cinema 3") in 2003.

The majestic Hotel Imperial and its sumptuous surroundings were originally created in 1863 as the Prince of Württemberg’s Viennese residence. Overlooking the historic Ring Boulevard in central Vienna, the building was transformed into a hotel to accommodate discerning visitors of the 1873 World’s Fair. Truly the palace of a prince, the façade is Italian Neo Renaissance with emblematic details.
Atop the building is a stone balustrade that elegantly frames a group of allegorical animals from the Württemberg coat of arms. The portal group is dominated by four impressive statues that are equally symbolic. The original entrance, flanked by two stone sentry boxes, was wide enough to accommodate a two-horse drawn carriage.
The interior furnishings of the Hotel Imperial artfully showcase the 19th Century romance of Vienna with pristine marble, hand carved statues, and spectacular crystal chandeliers. The time-honored Imperial Restaurant and Kaffeehaus Café Imperial Wien have accommodated many famous authors and composers.
Inside the lobby, a Royal Staircase leading up to suites and rooms is lit by magnificent chandeliers that sparkle and shimmer from high stucco ceilings radiating aristocratic flair. Private balconies offer splendid views of the roofs and spires of old Vienna.
Traditional Vienna was a place where businessmen, artists, scientists and lovers came together to mix and mingle. Curious and zealous individuals from all over the monarchy and Europe as a whole would flock to the imperial city. Tasteful lifestyle and indulgence played a prominent role in all of this – balls, soirees, concerts and coffeehouses were an obligatory component of this way of life. As one of the most state-of-the-art hotels of its time, our establishment introduced various innovations, such as a lift, or central heating, electricity and running water in all rooms,. During the fading 19th century, the Imperial Court was as much of a paragon for us as it is today, with its wealth of cordiality and cleanliness. The role of the Emperor may perhaps have been reserved to a single person. However, feeling like an emperor — as a result of our professional, charming service — can be experienced by anyone. Timeless things are good, we say!

Located in the heart of one of Vienna’s oldest and most beautiful areas, the first district, you will find the famous Palais Ferstel. The young architect Heinrich von Ferstel created this Palais between 1856 and 1860 while he was captivated by the impressions of a long visit to Italy. The unique combination of Venetian-Florentine Trecento architecture with classic ashlar masonry has rendered this building one of Vienna’s grandest and most interesting examples of Wilhelminian-style architecture. At the time of its opening in 1860, the Palais Ferstel was the newest design in Vienna. The stylish rooms and the glass-covered yard not only briefly housed the Vienna Stock Exchange and the Austro-Hungarian National Bank but also provided a suitable ambience for the famous Cafe Central which became the hub of Europe’s intellectual elite towards the end of the 19th Century. Today the Palais Ferstel still captures one’s imagination with its perfect combination of various architectural styles and represents a refreshing symbiosis of impressive architecture in a classical surrounding with state-of-the-art facilities. Its sympathetic restoration, which remained true to the original down to the very last detail, has returned the building to its former splendour. At the same time, all the requirements of contemporary living have been fully taken into consideration.
