The bridge runs over the danube and connects the 2nd and the 22nd district. It's a bridge on two levels. The totally length of the bridge is about 965m, the maximum clear span of the brigde about 170m.
Steinitzsteg crosses the Danube and New Danube and connects the 20th and 21 District with the Danube Island and the Hubertusdamm. It was built from 1994 to 1996 as a compensation for the one-way blockade of the north bridge during its refurbishment. From January to December 1996, the bridge was used as a two-lane detour route for traffic. Since then, the new bridge is an attractive link for pedestrians and bicyclists. The bridge is named after Wilhelm Steinitz, who is a well known chess world champion.
