Gaswerksteg crosses over the Donaukanal and connects the districts Landstraße (3rd) and Leopoldstadt (2nd). The pedestrian bridge was extended on both sides in 1988. Beneath the bridge you will find in the 3rd district the depot of Vienna's underground railway Erdberg with the U3 station Erdberg.
Steinitzsteg crosses the Danube and New Danube and connects the 20th and 21 District with the Danube Island and the Hubertusdamm. It was built from 1994 to 1996 as a compensation for the one-way blockade of the north bridge during its refurbishment. From January to December 1996, the bridge was used as a two-lane detour route for traffic. Since then, the new bridge is an attractive link for pedestrians and bicyclists. The bridge is named after Wilhelm Steinitz, who is a well known chess world champion.
In September 2008 the ”Street Art Passage Vienna” was opened on the initiative of quartier21 as a continuation of an already existing series of thematic passageways in the MuseumsQuartier Wien. The passageways are exhibition venues in public space which are each dedicated to specific cultural forms of expression. The ”Street Art Passage Vienna“ has a site-specific setting: It is the bridge from the Spittelberg – a center of the Vienna street art scene – to the 90,000 m2 cultura area of the MuseumsQuartier. Beside the permanent design of the passageway by french artist ”Invader” this public venue benefits from its alternating program of exhibitions of both international and local street art and graffiti artists plus an accompanying series of publications.
VIERTEL ZWEI is work and living area in the 2nd district directly at the local recreational area Prater. The 5000m2 lake is the heart of the area and in combination with the modern architecture and the various green areas creates one of Vienna’s most attractive quarters.
