The Old Danube is an oxbow lake of the Danube in Vienna and this is no longer directly connected with the river, but separated by a dam. It is divided into two different parts, which are interconnected. The Old Danube is an important and popular local recreation and swimming area. Several public outdoor swimming pools are located on its banks, including the most famous "Gänsehäufel".
The "Danube Island" is besides a flood protection for the city a huge recreation area for the people. Due to the nearly-natural configuration it's also a habitat for numerous animals and plants. The length of the island is 21 km, the wideness 250 meter.
The Wienerberg is located in the 10th district, the total area is 117 hectares.

In the 22nd district in the area of the former Vienna Aspern Airport there is one of the so-called "Himmelteiche" (sky ponds). Near Niklas-Eslarn-Straße, the biotope is easily accessible, even with public transportation. In addition to the idyllic "Himmelteich" (sky pond), with an interesting proportion of aquatic plants, there are a number of open spaces, gravel areas and impressive vegetation. An avenue of fruit-bearing trees offers a good contrast to the lush green areas.

"Mühlwasser" is an almost completely preserved old branch of the Danube in the 22nd district. On a length of 5 km it is freely accessible up to the swimming beach Stadlau. The Mühlwasser runs under the concrete structure of the Kaisermühlen motorway junction (Oberes Mühlwasser) to the Lobau (Unteres Mühlwasser).

The Stadtpark was built around 1860 and is the richest in monuments and sculptures of all the parks in Vienna. The most photographed monument in Vienna is the gilded Johann Strauss. The size of the park covers 65,000 square meters and it is located in the first and third municipal district of Vienna.
The hiking trail 5 leads from Stammersdorf to Falkenberg (Bisamberg) with its ten hectares area. At the 10 kilometer long tour are numerous vineyards, wine cellars, wine taverns, meadows and fields. The Senderstraße, one of the oldest and most beautiful wine cellar lanes of Vienna, leads to the Unterer Senderrundweg with a magnificent view over the city.
