The Old Danube is an oxbow lake of the Danube in Vienna and this is no longer directly connected with the river, but separated by a dam. It is divided into two different parts, which are interconnected. The Old Danube is an important and popular local recreation and swimming area. Several public outdoor swimming pools are located on its banks, including the most famous "Gänsehäufel".
"Mühlwasser" is an almost completely preserved old branch of the Danube in the 22nd district. On a length of 5 km it is freely accessible up to the swimming beach Stadlau. The Mühlwasser runs under the concrete structure of the Kaisermühlen motorway junction (Oberes Mühlwasser) to the Lobau (Unteres Mühlwasser).
