Vienna Film Commission Press Conference 2020
2019 was a very successful year for the film location Vienna: the Vienna Film Commission achieved record levels in permission applications, recommendations and filming permits.
In 2019, a total of 684 national and international film projects applied for the Vienna Film Commissions service – a plus of 13,3% compared to 2018. For these projects, a total of 1090 applications for filming permits were submitted at the Vienna Film Commission, of which a 1168 were transmitted to the responsible departments. Compared to the prior year, the number of applications for filming permits raised by 17,5%, the number of recommendation letters by 14,4%.
Executive City Councillor for Cultural Affairs and Science, Veronica Kaup-Hasler, emphasized: “Making film productions of various types possible is an important mission for the City of Vienna. The Vienna Film Commission is a professional and reliable partner for bringing film productions to this city, enabling them to shoot on a vast variety of locations. The continuous promotion and presentation of the film location Vienna on an international level strengthens this mission.”
National and international film makers appreciate the various opportunities provided by the City of Vienna for the realization of their creative ideas. The Vienna Film Commission defines itself as their partner, trying to enable what initially seems impossible.
Marijana Stoisits, director of the Vienna Film Commission, reports a thoroughly positive conclusion for 2019: “Once again, the increase of film shooting in Vienna is very satisfactory and proofs Vienna’s excellent reputation as a film-friendly city. This is a great encouragement for the Vienna Film Commissions work, which wouldn’t be possible without the explicit support of the city’s government and municipal authorities.” Therefore, the city’s everyday commitment in support of film production is the essential foundation for the success of the Vienna Film Commissions work, defining itself as filming location agency.
