film.location.wien. Industry Talk with the Friedhöfe Wien
During a guided tour of the Central Cemetery, Lisa Pernkopf, press spokesperson for Friedhöfe Wien (Vienna Cemeteries), provided insights into the wide range of filming opportunities available at Vienna’s cemeteries. In principle, film shoots can be carried out at all of the city’s cemeteries.
Vacant grave plots offer the possibility of creating fictional graves. In addition, under certain conditions, realistic crypt settings can be staged in the mortuary halls. The Central Cemetery brings together cemetery sections of different denominations; a separate permit from the Jewish Community is required for filming in the Jewish section. At selected cemeteries, additional rooms can also be rented.
Filming permits must be applied for directly from the Vienna Cemeteries. Early planning is recommended: the larger the production, the sooner contact should be made.
