film.location.wien. Industry Talk with Wien Kanal
At the Vienna Film Commission’s most recent industry talk, organized in collaboration with Wien Kanal, the Third Man Tour took participants into Vienna’s sewer system—one of the city’s most famous film locations. This is where the legendary scenes from Carol Reed’s classic film The Third Man (1949), starring Orson Welles, were shot.
During the guided tour, participants gained fascinating insights into the history and use of this location, which is also available as a filming location under certain conditions. Since the “The Third Man” Tour runs daily from Thursday through Sunday from May through October, filming during this period can primarily take place from Monday through Wednesday. From November through April, the tours are not available, allowing for much more flexible scheduling of film shoots.
Please note that filming in the sewer system is always dependent on weather conditions. In the event of rain or a forecast of inclement weather, filming cannot take place.
Applications for filming in the Vienna sewer system must be submitted via the Vienna Film Commission’s digital application tool.
