Every year, everything is supposed to be perfect—but as Christmas Eve approaches, it becomes clear that things rarely go according to plan at Christmas. A grandfather learns this lesson when his family decides to forego gifts this year for the sake of the environment. Two strangers stranded at the airport also imagined the “season of love” differently—but at least they have each other's company. A man whose friends want to stay sober at the Christmas market also loses his patience. Old habits are shaken – and with them, friendships.

Christmas Eve threatens to be even more sobering for a young housekeeper who is supposed to look after a villa over the holidays – until someone breaks in who has a score to settle with the owners. A resolute lady in a retirement home has not quite come to terms with her past either: thanks to her granddaughter, she gets a second chance to win the Christmas quiz that was once stolen from her.

And even a pastor is in danger of having to spend Christmas Eve alone – but then a mysterious flyer leads him to a place where the holiday suddenly takes on a whole new meaning.
