The relatively short Thurngasse is an extension of Thurnstiege in the Alsergrund district. It leads into Porzellangasse and is lined with buildings from the Gründerzeit period. Only the building immediately adjacent to the staircase and the staircase itself are examples of 21st-century architecture. Thurngasse continues above the staircase and leads to the busy Währinger Straße with its numerous tram lines.
