Information about filming permits
According to the Animal Welfare Act, official approval is required for animals to participate in film shoots. In Vienna, the application must be submitted directly to the Veterinary Services and Animal Protection (MA 60); a letter of recommendation from the Vienna Film Commission is not required.

Are there special regulations for wild animals or carriage horses?
Special requirements apply to the use of wild animals, which must be examined on a case-by-case basis. No special permit is required for filming with carriage horses, provided that no unusual demands are placed on the animals.
What is the deadline for submitting the application?
The complete application must be submitted at least six weeks before filming begins. Missing documents may be requested at a later date. It is recommended that alternative filming dates be included in the application in case of possible postponements.
Can multiple animals be included in a single application?
Yes. If multiple animals are used for a film project, the information can be submitted in a single application.
Is a permit always required, or are there exceptions?
If you are working with a qualified animal trainer who has the appropriate permits and expertise, no separate permit is required. In this case, it is sufficient to notify MA 60 of the shoot in good time.
