Information about filming permits
The MA 46 (Traffic Management and Organisation) is responsible for filming on public traffic areas such as roads, sidewalks, or pedestrian zones. This is handled without a letter of recommendation from the Vienna Film Commission, and applications must be submitted directly to the MA 46.

What needs to be considered when complex filming involves traffic disruptions?
If a filming project requires disruptions to traffic flow—for example, through road closures or short-term traffic stops—MA 46 can schedule an on-site meeting to assess the filming plans.
Where do I apply for exclusive parking zones for filming?
Exclusive parking zones for filming must also be applied for directly at MA 46.
What are the deadlines for submitting applications?
Without a site inspection: at least ten working days before the planned filming date.
With a site inspection: at least twenty working days before the planned filming date.
No-parking zones only: at least ten working days before the planned date.

Limited Permit - Small film crews on public traffic areas
What is a limited permit?
Under certain conditions, small film crews can obtain a free limited permit. This special regulation applies to shoots that do not interfere with traffic and require minimal technical equipment.
Where can filming take place with a limited permit?
A limited permit is valid exclusively on public traffic areas such as roads, sidewalks, and in pedestrian zones. The following are excluded, among others: Museum Quarter, Danube Canal, Danube Island, Green Prater and Wurstelprater, Heldenplatz, Maria-Theresien-Platz, Rathausplatz, parks of the City of Vienna and the federal government, markets, schools, swimming pools.
What are the requirements?
No disruption to traffic of any kind is permitted. The permitted technical equipment consists of a handheld camera, tripod, and boom pole. The team size may not exceed five people (including cast and crew). For student projects, a maximum of eight people (including cast and crew) are permitted on set. Documentary recordings, interviews, and presentations are permitted, as are simple performances that blend inconspicuously into public life. Well-known actors are not permitted in order to avoid crowds.
Where do I apply for a limited permit?
A limited permit is issued exclusively by the Vienna Film Commission. Applications can be submitted via our digital application tool.
